Shell Bitumen Tank
TfA successfully completed the engineering, procurement and construction management of a new bitumen import facility for The Shell Company of Australia Limited at their Pinkenba site. The project involved upgrading of the existing stripping facility to increase storage and allow importing of finished C170 grade bitumen.
TfA’s involvement consisted of the following:
- Front-end engineering design and procurement of a new 10,000 tonne bitumen storage tank to API 650 specifications. The tank is 25m diameter x 21 metres tall and product is maintained at 140°C using insulation and hot oil heating coils.
- Front-end engineering design and procurement of a new natural gas fired 3.5MW thermal oil heater package complete with 4 shell and tube heat exchangers
- Complete engineering and design of bitumen and hot oil piping systems including a 500m ship’s receipt line and 300m gantry load out line. A full set of construction isometrics were created in Bentley AutoPlant and pipe stress analysis was completed using Bentley AutoPIPE.
- Front end engineering design and procurement of electrical heat tracing system for the bitumen piping
- Full electrical design and procurement including a new switch room and interfacing with the existing plant control system
- Procurement of valves and instrumentation
- Construction management and HSSE management
