RAAF Air to Air Refuellers
Project Description
The RAAF has ordered 4 new A330-200 Airbus Air to Air Refuellers to be based at the existing Amberley Air Force Base. Existing Boeing 707 refuellers at Richmond Air Force Base are to be retired with support personnel to be relocated to Amberley.
This project entails a major upgrade of the Amberley Air Force Base including new Administration buildings, Tarmac Upgrades, Hangars and Refuelling Facilities to support the AAR aircraft.
TfA are members of the successful project team headed by Leighton Contractors responsible for the design and construction of the facilities.
Timing
Concept and Schematic Design Reports have been completed and been accepted by Defence with Detailed Design currently in progress. Construction is due to commence early 2006.

Total project value is approximately $100 million.

TfA Contribution
TfA’s role includes a review of existing fuel infrastructure, hydraulic and mechanical design of the AAR refuelling hydrant system including surge analysis, procurement support, construction site inspections and commissioning.
