Kogan Creek Power Station

Project Description

The Kogan Creek Power Project, located near Chinchilla in Queensland, is a coal fired power station in a single unit arrangement with a capacity of 750 megawatts.  The design utilises supercritical steam technology and an air cooled condenser.  The project owner, CS Energy Ltd, awarded the turnkey contract for the power station to the consortium partners Siemens Ltd and Hitachi Ltd.  Total project value is $900,000,000.

TfA Contribution

TfA Project Group, as designers and engineers, supported Lanskey Constructions in their successful tender for the design and construction of six owner required buildings to a project value of $12M.  Winning the tender included participating in sevaral days negotiations with Siemens in Erlanger, Germany.  The buildings include a three story Administration building, Gatehouse, Staff Amenities building, Workshop & Stores, Fire Station and Laboratory building.

Structural, architectural and hydraulic details were provided by TfA including co-ordination of mechanical and electrical services.  The project ran over a 12 month period with detailed design completed in less than 12 weeks.

Timing

Construction of the six owner required buildings commenced in August 2005.

Project Challanges

Successful participation in contract negotiations overseas with short notice, effective liaison and resolving layout issues for hazardous goods with client, project manager and owners in a timely fashion.
