Project Profile - Caltex Cairns Terminal
Project Description
This project comprised a major upgrade to the existing Caltex Terminal in Cairns. It included an automation of the wharf manifold, new dockline through the tank farm, new switchboard, new fire fighting pump, tank gauging and product pump for distribution throughout the tank farm, control panel, gantry deluge system, cooling rings and associated piping modifications.
Timing
Construction was staged over a 6 month period to minimise disruptions to Terminal operations and completed in May 2006.
TfA Contribution
TfA provided project management and detailed design services for the entire project including civil works, drainage, electrical, mechanical and hydraulic design. This included regular site inspections, co-ordination of all regulatory body approvals, commissioning and site documentation.
Challenges
The remote location and staging construction to minimise disruption to site operations.
