Renewable Fuels

As designers, project managers and engineers, TfA have provided professional and technical advice to the renewable fuels industry since its inception days. We are experienced in all facets of this sector including; bio-ethanol, hydrogen, blending facilities, co-generation and bio-digestion projects.

  • Ethanol Distilleries:

TfA has been involved in the design and integration of a bottom loading facility of ethanol, dispensing different grades of ethanol. This project included the upgrade of the DCS and PLC systems, at both the tank farm and the distillery.
  • Working directly with clients and technology providers, TfA have designed various plants. TfA's flexibility is shown throughout every project, having designed ethanol plants being produced from cane, grain and wheat.
  • TfA have previously designed ethanol blending facitilties for different applications, including fuel-grade blending and hygiene process systems.
  • TfA continues to work with clients in developing designs for new ethanol plants. TfA provide 3D concept models as one of the first steps to visualising the ultimate goal: a successful ethanol production plant.
  • Dalby Bio-Refinery bulk earthworks complete: Bulk earthworks were commenced prior to financial close to ensure the Bio-Refinery would start producing ethanol as soon as possible.
  • Dalby Bio-Refinery Main Process Building under construction: The heart of DBRL's processing plant comes together. Modularised pipe rack, building and motor control centre packages maximised the offsite prefabrication opportunities for DBRL. The benefit? Lower cost through effective quality control in established work shops and avoidance of remote labour and plant.

  • Aerial view of Dalby Bio-Refinery nearing its completion. TfA was heavily involved in the design of Australia's first grain-to-ethanol plant.
  • Aerial view of Dalby Bio-Refinery in full production. This bio-refinery is the first grain-to-ethanol refinery in Australia.
  • Food versus fuel myth debunked:

TfA Managing Director Tam Faragher and the Dalby design team putting their opinion where their mouths are. Grain sorghum goes in, ethanol and high protein cattle feed comes out. Contact us for WDGS cookie recipes.
  • 3D Modelling of Ethanol Plant: TfA conducted the 3D detailed design of the Dalby Bio-Refinery using Bentley AutoPlant. Benefits of this modelling software include virtual walk throughs to facilitate HAZOPS and constructability reviews. Comprehensive bills of materials enable accurate cost estimation and detailed piping isometrics and layout facilitate efficient construction.
