TFA’s inhouse town planning and engineering experience will make us valuable partners for your hydrogen infrastructure development projects.

Notably, TfA are dangerous good specialists and understand safe storage and handling of dangerous goods including flammable gases including hydrogen. A number of key staff are members of the Australasian Institute of Dangerous Goods Consultants. We can perform hazardous area classification and evaluate the necessary separation distances from onsite and offsite protected places to ensure the installation is safe.

Specific expertise which will support the development of a hydrogen economy includes:

Hydrogen Refuelling Projects

TfA have been investigating hydrogen refuelling projects for over ten years since we first attended the World Hydrogen Conference in 2008. We have recently completed concept designs and cost estimates for several proposed new hydrogen refuelling facilities. TfA have assessed multiple canopy and equipment configurations as well as multiple site locations. Projects have included 200kW electrolysers and 200kW solar farms to provide renewable energy to the hydrogen refuelling facilities. TfA have developed AACE Class 5 cost estimate and site layouts for proposed facilities.

Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power for Forest Retreat

TfA assisted a luxury forest retreats company to evaluate options for a renewable hydrogen based microgrid for supplying power to remote wilderness cabins. Due to the sites being in pristine bushland with extensive tree canopy cover, the proposed project considered the installation of an electrolyser, solar panels, and dispensing equipment on open land at a nearby farm, with a tube trailer to transport the hydrogen from the point of generation to a number of bush sites.

Feasibility Studies

TfA’s team are experienced with performing feasibility studies and due diligence on various renewable energy facilities from $1M up to $200M. TFA’s scope has included assessment of the commercial and technical aspects of the project’s viability against Government criteria for grant funding. TFA have provided master plans, concept designs, detailed designs, cost estimates and town planning applications.

Retail Service Stations and Truckstop Projects

TfA have been involved with over 1200 service stations and truck stop projects, which means we have significant expertise in key aspects of a hydrogen infrastructure project including:

  1. TfA have long established relationships with all of the major fuel retailers (in addition to up and coming hydrogen retailers) and are well placed to tap into our network regarding possible partnership arrangements including possible funding and operating models of the proposed facility.
  2. TfA understand fuel retailing and what makes for a functional site layout such as optimum site orientations, vehicle turning paths, and segregation of light and heavy vehicle traffic.
